Overview Of The Composition And Application Of Carbon Fiber Prepreg Tape Winding Equipment

Carbon fiber prepreg tape winding equipment is a crucial piece of equipment in the high-end manufacturing of composite materials. It is primarily used to precisely wind resin-impregnated carbon fiber prepreg tape onto the surface of a mandrel along a predetermined path to form high-strength, lightweight rotating components. This equipment is widely used in aerospace, rail transportation, high-end equipment manufacturing, and new energy fields, meeting extremely stringent requirements for the mechanical properties, dimensional accuracy, and consistency of structural components.

Structurally, the equipment mainly consists of a mandrel drive system, a prepreg tape supply system, a tension and guidance control system, a winding motion control system, and a curing auxiliary device. The mandrel drive system carries and drives the mandrel to rotate, achieving constant or variable speed rotation to accommodate different winding patterns. The prepreg tape supply system includes an unwinding device, guide rollers, and a clamping mechanism, ensuring the prepreg tape remains flat and creased during transport and is synchronized with the mandrel's rotation speed. The tension and guidance control system, through precision sensors and servo mechanisms, monitors and adjusts the strip tension in real time to prevent fiber misalignment or localized resin-rich or resin-poor defects caused by tension fluctuations.

The winding motion control system is the core of the equipment. Utilizing CNC technology, it coordinates the mandrel rotation speed, the carriage or gantry travel speed, and the strip laying angle to achieve helical winding, circumferential winding, and a combination of both. This system can automatically generate winding trajectories based on component design parameters and correct errors in real time during operation, ensuring the accuracy of fiber orientation and layer thickness distribution. For complex curved surfaces or variable cross-section components, it can also achieve multi-axis linkage and dynamic path planning, significantly improving molding freedom.

The curing auxiliary device can be configured with an oven, infrared, or hot air circulation system according to process requirements to achieve online heating or semi-curing of the prepreg strip during the winding process, or uniform high-temperature curing after winding to obtain the final mechanical properties. Some equipment also integrates online monitoring and data acquisition functions, which can monitor the strip position, tension changes, and temperature distribution in real time, providing data support for quality traceability and process optimization.

The technological advantages of carbon fiber prepreg tape winding equipment lie in its high forming precision, controllable fiber volume fraction, high material utilization rate, and ability to achieve integrated manufacturing of complex structures, reducing subsequent processing and assembly steps. With the development of intelligent manufacturing, the continuous improvement of this type of equipment in automation, digitalization, and intelligence is constantly expanding the application boundaries of high-end composite materials under harsh working conditions, becoming an important pillar of advanced manufacturing systems.
