Centrifugal casting is a casting method in which molten metal is poured into a rotating mould, causing the molten metal to fill the mould under the action of centrifugal force and solidify.
To achieve this process, a centrifugal casting machine must be used to create the conditions for the mould to rotate. Depending on the spatial position of the mould's rotational axis, there are two commonly used types: vertical centrifugal casting machines and horizontal centrifugal casting machines.
On a vertical centrifugal casting machine, the mould rotates about a vertical axis; it is primarily used to produce ring-shaped castings where the height is less than the diameter, though it can sometimes be used to cast irregularly shaped castings.
In horizontal centrifugal casting machines, the mould rotates about a horizontal axis; these are primarily used to produce sleeve-type and tubular castings where the length exceeds the diameter.

why choose our products
As liquid metal fills the mould and solidifies whilst rotating during centrifugal casting, this process possesses the following characteristics:
1) The molten metal forms a hollow cylindrical free surface within the mould, enabling the production of hollow castings without the need for cores, which greatly simplifies the manufacturing process for sleeve and tubular castings;
2) Due to the centrifugal force generated by the rotating molten metal, the centrifugal casting process enhances the metal's ability to fill the mould; consequently, alloys with poor fluidity and thin-walled castings can be produced using this method;
3) Centrifugal force improves feeding conditions and facilitates the expulsion of gases and non-metallic inclusions from the molten metal; consequently, centrifugal castings exhibit a denser microstructure and fewer defects such as shrinkage cavities (shrinkage porosity), gas pores and inclusions;
4) It eliminates or significantly reduces metal consumption associated with the gating system and risers;
5) Castings are prone to segregation, and their internal surfaces tend to be rough. Internal surface dimensions are difficult to control.
The first patent for centrifugal casting was filed in 1809 by the British engineer Erchardt, but it was not until the early 20th century that this method was gradually adopted in production. In the 1930s, China also began utilising centrifugal casting for tubular and cylindrical castings such as iron pipes, bronze bushings, cylinder liners and bimetallic steel-backed bronze bushings, where centrifugal casting became almost the primary method; furthermore, the centrifugal casting process has been used with great success in the production of heat-resistant steel roller tracks, blanks for certain special steel seamless pipes, and paper machine drying cylinders. Highly mechanised and automated centrifugal casting machines have now been developed, and mechanised centrifugal pipe casting workshops capable of mass production have been established.
Virtually all casting alloys can be used in centrifugal casting. The minimum internal diameter of centrifugal castings can be as small as 8 mm, whilst the maximum diameter can reach 3 m; the maximum length of castings can be up to 8 m. The weight of centrifugal castings ranges from a few kilograms to tens of thousands of kilograms (from a few hundred grams to over ten tonnes).
